We have been receiving lots of questions from our friends on what should they have before attending their yoga classes. Be it Hatha, Bikram, Ashtanga or Kundalini Yoga, you ought to consume something before the classes to fully reap the benefits of yoga. So here are some of the food we would recommend you to have before your classes! Avocado is replete with critical electrolytes like magnesium and potassium (60% more than a banana), which contributes to proper cell and muscle function. Additionally, avocados are nutrient-based and easy to digest, so you will feel full for longer. Avocado contains natural healthy fats, which help to lower bad cholesterol and promote lean muscle growth. You will feel light in the triangle and strong for your handstand. Banana is commonly perceived as a great pre-workout snack. It is cheap and rich in nutrients, such as potassium and magnesium that can keep your body properly hydrated and prevents cramps and bloating. It will be a perfect quick snack before any of your yoga classes! Raw almonds are rich in lots of nutrients, such as potassium, magnesium, vitamin E and healthy fats. They will help you to stay hydrated and giving your muscles staying power. It is best to opt for organic or plain and unsalted almonds, than salted variety. Apples are alkaline fruits, which help to counter acidity developing in the stomach. They contain natural sugars and rich fiber. They keep your body hydrated and are a great source of vitamin C, which can help hold you over until after you have finished holding the tree pose. A simple blend of fruits like banana, apple or avocado with coconut water will help to set you in motion and help you get the most out of your yoga practice. If you do not have any problems with digesting dairy, adding a little Greek yogurt into your smoothie will make good pre-yoga snack snacks. Dark chocolate helps to maintain blood sugar levels and increase the blood flow to your brain. Having a little dark chocolate before yoga class will aid in your ability to focus and boost concentration. After getting some ideas of what should you eat before your yoga classes, you should know to have KFC or heavy meal before yoga classes are not that ideal! Next time, we are sure you can come to the studio prepared and ready to reap the best of out of your yoga practice.   Till then, see you at Jal.
